Frequently Asked Questions
+ Why the name Red?
Red Church was once a network of churches meeting throughout Melbourne, and the name Red came from the Spanish word for ‘network’.
+ What does Red Church believe?
- We believe that there is one true God who has existed for eternity as three persons, the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the divine inspiration and absolute authority of the Bible which is the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
- We believe that God created people in His image, male and female, to share in His eternal life, worship Him and steward creation.
- We believe that due to humanity’s rebellion against God (we call this sin), everyone has fallen short of the glory of God and is driven by their fallen nature and eternally separated from Him.
- We believe that God showed His great love for us by sending His son, Jesus Christ, in human form, through the incarnation, born of the virgin Mary. Jesus was without sin, fully God and fully man.
- We believe in the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross; paying the price of sin (separation from God), defeating evil and death, and reconciling us back with God.
- We believe that Jesus physically rose from the dead on the third day, and that He ascended to the Father’s right hand where He now reigns as the Saviour of the world.
- We believe that fallen humans are justified through faith in this Saviour, Jesus Christ.
- We believe that God sent His comforter and guide, the Holy Spirit, who leads us into repentance, life with Christ through new birth, empowers our Christian life, deepens our faith and enables us to witness to the world.
- We believe that God has established His people as the Church, His priesthood of all believers, who are empowered by the Holy Spirit through the impartation of spiritual gifts, who are called to proclaim the gospel, promote justice and live out His Kingdom life on earth.
- We believe that Christ will personally and visibly return to fulfil God’s salvation plan; He will raise all people to the harvest of judgement, in which the righteous will enter into eternal life with Him and the rebellious into eternal separation, and He will finally establish a new heaven and earth.
+ What is the call on Red Church?
Sitting alongside our Vision and Mission is a strong sense of call that God has given Red Church. This call gives focus, purpose and identity to Red, and can be summarised in three key areas:
- We are called to focus on Discipleship: We firmly believe that God is looking not just for believers, but for followers. We are passionate about growing disciples: people who are committed to living authentically as followers of Christ – growing in relationship, obedience and service to Him – and encouraging others to do the same.
- Our call is Apostolic: Apostolic means to ‘be sent with a message’. As a Church, Red has a particular message to steward and share (centred around discipleship in today’s culture), and that message is to go out beyond the walls of our local Church congregations to build up the wider Church body.
- We are called to speak into Faith and Culture: As citizens of God’s Kingdom we have a mandate to shape—rather than be shaped by—the culture around us.
+ Where can I find more of Red’s teaching and resources?
You can listen to our Sunday sermons and other resources here. It’s our recommendation that these supplement, rather than replace, your presence in your own local church and your submission to the leaders that God has placed around you.
+ What is Red’s leadership structure?
Red is governed by a Board, made up of Red Church members. The Board employs the Senior Leader who in turn employs the staff. Churches of Christ Victoria/Tasmania provide oversight, care and compliance for certain areas of operation as necessary.
+ What denomination is Red Church?
Red Church is affiliated with Churches of Christ Victoria/Tasmania. Our members are made up of people from a variety of church backgrounds; Baptist to Pentecostal, Catholic to Anglican and everyone in between.
+ How can I get connected in the Red community?
How can I get connected in the Red community? If you’re local to Melbourne, we’d love to invite you to join our Nunawading or Kilsyth communities. Join us on Sundays (turning up regularly, on time, has a big impact on being connected!) and head to the I'm New page to see ways you can get connected.
For those overseas or interstate, you can listen to our sermon podcast here. Keeping up with our Facebook and Instagram is a good way to hear about further resources, recommended books, or other events. We encourage you to see these things as supplementary to your commitment to your own local church and spiritual growth, not an end in themselves.
+ What if my question wasn’t answered here?
If there is something we’ve not covered here on our website, feel free to chat with us at the connect space after a Sunday gathering, sign up to attend a Red101 or email us at: hello@redchurch.org.au
